Description

This project tries tries to answer the question how running times of trains in Austrian railway tunnels differ between using a simulation software and an empirical formula. To achieve that, infrastructure data is used as input data for a simulation with the simulation software OpenTrack. The output data of the simulation is provided here.

Context and methodology

  • Research domain: civil engineering, transportation sciences
  • Purpose of the dataset: use in a research project comparing running times though tunnels
  • This dataset was created by using OpenTrack 1.10.7.

Technical details

  • There is a ZIP file with folders, which are named TunSim-OTOutput-YYMMDD-verXY, while YYMMDD denotes the date of the simulation run and XY denotes the version number.
Within the folders, the file names follow OpenTrack’s naming convention. The part before the full stop denotes the train number and the part after the full stop denotes the type of evaluation (e.g. velocity and and time).
  • The data are stored in ASCII text files. The head of every ASCII file contains metadata with a brief description how the data are structured.
  • A README file is available. For a more comprehensive description of OpenTrack's naming convention refer to chapter 8.7.2 of the OpenTrack manual.

Further details

  • The train numbers used are not real train numbers. For more information, refer to the README file.
